Joe Van Meter is a 2006 shortstop/pitcher from Farmingdale, New York, with a lean and athletic 6'2"/175 pound frame. Van Meter has smooth actions in the infield and a strong arm. He showed excellent range, good quick feet, and is very good around the second base bag. A right handed hitter, Joe hits from an open stance with a balanced approach. He closes well and has a line drive swing plane. Van Meter has very good bat speed and showed gap to gap power. As a right handed pitcher, he pitches from a 3/4 arm slot with clean arm action and very good arm speed. Van Meter has a balanced delivery and stays online to the plate. He throws an 85 mph fastball with sink, and 11-5 tight breaking curveball, and a changeup with arm side fade. Joe is a definite two way prospect and a must follow.
