2017 Midwest Underclass Showcase
Chase Becker is a 2021 RHP/3B with a 6-2 175 lb. frame from Cedar Rapids, IA who attends John F Kennedy. Large frame with a lean, athletic build. Frame projects to support additional strength while maintaining athleticism. Primary right handed pitcher with a smooth, balanced delivery. Stays balanced at gather and utilized lower half well while driving to the plate. Clean arm circle at take back and released from a loose three-quarters slot. Fastball jumped out of hand well created good downhill plane with run to arm side in the upper 70's to low 80's, topped at 82 miles per hour. Solid arm speed with a curveball offering that had 11/5 shape with tight spin and hard depth. Showed good feel for both pitches and consistently worked to each edge of the plate. Also worked out defensively from the infield showing smooth, athletic footwork while ranging for and surrounding the baseball. Clean glove actions while funneling out front and worked through exchange with fluidity. Released from a three-quarters slot creating accurate, on line carry across the infield topping at 82 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with a spread, slightly open stance and hanging leg lift trigger. Shifts into contact with linear lower half actions. Loose hand path to baseball with a naturally lifted barrel plane through extension. Showed good feel for the barrel throughout the zone with a smooth, fluid finish. Consistently squared up baseball throughout batting practice and showed good bat speed and strength when squared. Named to the 2017 Midwest Underclass Showcase, Top Prospect List.
