2014 Pitcher/Catcher Indoor Showcase
Matthew Vierling is a 2015 OF/RHP/SS with a 6-4 193 lb. frame from St. Louis, MO who attends Christian Brothers College HS. Outstanding athletic build, has grown and got noticeably stronger since last summer. Right handed hitter, very simple and fundamentally strong swing, quiet approach and load, fluid loose swing with very good bat speed, stays above the ball well and extends through contact, ball jumps off the barrel hard, short and powerful swing, will have no problems handling velocity, high level swing. Two-way prospect on the mound, big arm strength. Leg raise delivery, stays balanced and back well, accelerates hard to the plate with some effort, 3/4's to high 3/4's arm slot. Fastball topped out at 91 mph, lots of life down in the zone but tends to miss up often. Change could be 2-seam fastball, showed outstanding life at the plate with better command than fastball, potential plus pitch. Rare slider with short sweeping shape. Has proven he's a high level defensive outfielder previously, improvement in strength and swing could bring him to elite prospect level status. Excellent student, verbal commitment to Notre Dame.
