Putnam is one of the top "05" prospects in the country. He is a strong 6'2/205 and he's very athletic. He can play any position on the field and play it well. He showed in Lincoln that he is capable of being an outstanding hitter and he projects power. That said, Putnam has a magical right arm and is certainly a big time pitching prospect. In Lincoln he threw a consistent high 80s to 90 mph with good life on his heater. There's no doubt that he will throw harder. In fact he already has. He threw a nice sharp curveball around 73 mph and a slider up in the upper 70s. He showed a great feel for the changeup and even threw what looked like a knuckler in the upper 70s. That's more pitches than he needs with his already MLB average fastball, but he throws them all well with good command. Things are pretty easy for Putnam on the mound, he's very natural. Zach will be a high draft possibility in "05 and he can play at any college in America. He carries a 3.7 GPA.
