2005 Spring Top Prospect
Maytas is a big and strong 6-4 junior right handed pitcher from Wisconsin. We’d heard he was throwing in the mid to upper 80’s in the Wisconsin Spring League and he threw very well in Cedar Rapids, too. He’s really improved since this time last year. Maytas has a balanced delivery with good extension in his arm action and good leverage and plane to the plate from a high ¾’s release point. He does a good job of both repeating his delivery and of maintaining his stuff from the stretch and from inning to inning. Maytas’ fastball was 85-86 mph consistently and he would get some very nice cutting action to it occasionally. We’re not sure whether this was intentional or not but it could be a great future weapon for him, whether as a cut fastball or a potential slider. Maytas’ curveball was a quality pitch at 70 mph, with a big 11/5 break and tight spin. His upper 70’s change up needs some work still. Overall, Maytas is a young pitcher who should keep improving. Maytas is a good student.
