2004 National Underclass Dec 28-30
Bernal is a 2006 right handed pitcher from Wellington HS in Florida. He has an excellent frame and body for a young pitcher, 6-4, 200 lbs with loose actions and plenty of room to add strength. Bernal has an easy arm action from a standard ¾’s release point and little effort in his delivery. His fastball in Fort Myers topped out at 84 mph and that looks to be scratching the surface of what he’s capable of. His fastball has some arm side run to it. Bernal threw a 70-71 mph curveball that he had good snap on out front and generated good spin and bite. He also threw a 74-76 mph change up. Bernal worked quickly and with a purpose and had an idea with all his pitches. He’s very projectable and we can see him as a first rate power pitcher in a couple of year’s. Bernal will get plenty of Division I interest over the next year and who knows when projectable pitchers make sudden velocity gains.
