2004 Midwest Top Prospect Showcase
Nick Kirk is a 2005 left handed pitcher from Dubuque, Iowa, with a 6'0", 180 lb. frame. Kirk throws from a 3/4 arm slot, and his arm works very well. His fastball topped out at 82 mph with some late running life. At times he opens his front side too early and falls to the third base side causing his arm to lag behind and affect his control. When he stays online, he throws strikes with both of his pitches. Kirk also has a curveball at 70 mph with a 2 to 7 break and good rotation and depth. Kirk is very projectable on the mound and should add more velocity. He struck out 5 hitters in 3 innings while only allowing 1 hit. Offensively, Kirk hits with a quick rotation and average bat speed. He has a nice, fluid swing with good lower half involvement. He has the potential to be a two way player at the next level. For sure, he's a good college lefty! Nick is a strong student.
