2005 National Showcase
Mark Sobolewski is a 2006 MIF from Sarasota High School in Florida, with a 5'11", 185 lb. frame. He is an excellent all around athlete whose combination of balance, strength and quickness make him one of the best infield prospects in the country. Sobolewski is a primary shortstop and has the actions and arm strength to play that position at the highest levels. He also played some second base in Atlanta and looked just as comfortable, if not more so, at that position. His balance makes him especially good making plays on the move. Third base would be just as easy to play for Sobolewski. Offensively, Sobolewski has an exceptionally short and quick swing. He has surprising power for his swing type and the ball jumps off his bat with authority to all fields. Sobolewski's hardest hit at the showcase was a line drive double over the centerfielder's head on a curveball that he waited back on and drove. Adjusting to breaking balls shouldn't be a problem with his short swing. Sobolewski is an excellent student who has signed with Miami but should receive serious interest from the professional scouts as well.
