Greg Peavey is a 2007 right hand pitcher from Hudson's Bay HS, residing in Vancouver, WA. Peavey has a strong, athletic, lean build on his 6'2" 175 lb. frame. Peavey has long been a hard thrower and it is conceivable that he will gain some more velocity, but he does have square shoulders and a body composition that is pretty tightly wound. In any case, he is quite good, one of the nation's best and was ranked #4 among PG National Top 85 pitchers. Peavey pitches from high 3/4 slot, with a short backside arm action that generate plus arm speed. There is a lot of effort in his arm stroke, but he repeats a compact delivery well and can sustain his velocity... maybe not at the top end but near it. Because of his short arm action, Peavey's power 92-94 fastball still seemed sneaky against hitters. It can bore on RH hitters or he can get some sink action with his two seamer. All of his fastballs seemed quite hot in the zone. Peavey also has a plus breaking ball, a hard 77-82 mph curveball and a more slider-like 84-85 mph breaker. Both are thrown aggressively and have tight spin and hard bite. They are both out pitches, with the curveball having late depth and the slider having late darting action. Peavey's future is on the mound but he can hit a bit too. It is possible that if he goes to college he will get a shot as a two-way prospect, though that would mean using him as a DH or at 1st base. He has good bat speed and a short swing that produces power in the middle of the field. He ran 4.28 home/1st. Though listed at 6'2", Peavey may actually be at least a shade below that, putting him in the category of undersized high school right hand pitcher. That alone clouds his prospect status, at least as a top round pick. He is a prospect, whether he gets that opportunity this June or after a college career.
