PG Southeast Elite Crowns Winners

TG DBacks Bats Rise to Occasion (13u)

Dingers Athletics Scout and the TG DBacks 13u Scout faced off in the 13u championship game Monday afternoon, and after an explosive first inning from both teams the DBacks were able to walk away with a 13-5 win and the championship title.  

The Dingers got things rolling in the top of the first, scoring five runs, but the Dbacks were able to answer back quickly. Brandon Perkins Jr. got the offensive momentum going for the Dbacks with a two-run homer with his first at-bat of the game.  



The Dbacks were able to keep the offense going scoring at least one run each inning. Andrew Cochran went 3-for-3 on the afternoon with two doubles and one triple, batting in four runs and scoring three himself.  

Dexter McCleon Jr. started on the mound for the Dbacks, topping out his fastball at 89 mph. Max Rogozinski came in as relief, pitching 3.1 innings allowing only one hit and striking out three. Drew Jackson came in to close by pitching one inning, striking out one. 

 
College Prospects Battle, Win Title (14u)

The College Prospects and 6-4-3 Dp Cougars 14u went head-to-head in the 14u championship game yesterday afternoon. Although the game got off to a slow start, the College Prospects were able to get the bats going in the top of the fourth.  

Aiden Salinas drove in the Prospects' first run after drilling a line drive to the left side, scoring Noah Everly. After advancing to third on a single from Juan Luis Rivera Jr, Salinas scored on a sac fly to center field from Brayden Hassel.  

The Cougars were able to hold the Prospects to their two runs while they put a pair of runs up on the board. In the bottom of the fifth, Jayden Whiteside scored the Cougars' first run, off a double from Walker Killimett to center field. In the bottom of the sixth, after taking first base on a walk and advancing to second on a single from Austin Tamborra, Dylan Honore scored the Cougars' second run of the game off a single from Evan Brand. 

The Prospects, however, were able to answer back, scoring two more runs in the top of the seventh to clinch the championship win 4-2.  
 

Canes Claim Crown (15u)

In the championship game between the Georgia Jackets and the Evoshield Canes, Kevin Mooney's Canes club came out on top 4-2 to take home the trophy.

For the Canes, Drew Hammock had a strong start, giving up just two runs on four hits and four strikeouts in four and a third innings. As stated by the team's head coach Kevin Mooney, "We got going a little late facing Rice, but Drew Hammock kept us in the game by throwing strikes, getting ground balls, and carrying his own."

For the Jackets, AJ Rice took the ball and pitched four and a third innings while striking out two. He gave up 4 runs, 2 of them earned, on 6 hits and 1 walk.

The Canes' Matthew Kerrigan leadoff single ignited the game after the first inning ended without a run being scored. Trent Ellington, the right fielder, hit a triple down the right field line with two outs to bring home Kerrigan.

Despite the Canes still leading the game 1-0, the Georgia Jackets continued to fight. The Jackets started their offensive effort with a single from Brice Gillis in the top of the fifth inning. With a double down the left field line, Knox Bingham pulled him in to tie the game at one. Jackson Cox hit a follow-up double to put his club in front.

In the bottom of the fifth inning for the Canes, Cade Cox's leadoff double gave an immediate answer. After a Xander Sutton bunt single put runners on the corners, they forced the issue with a second-base steal and a throwing error, resulting in a tie game at two. The Canes made an attempt to take the lead following a hit by pitch and a sacrifice bunt and by perfectly timing a rundown between first and second, they were able to sneak a run and gain a 3-2 advantage. With a RBI single off the bat of Hudson Reed, they were able to extended their lead to 4-2.

The Canes won the championship due to the effectiveness of relief pitchers Draco Frazzita and Xander Hughes, who combined for 2 1/3 innings of baseball with only one hit and no runs scored. “We had excellent relief work, " Mooney remarked. “Had a terrific weekend, came up with some key hits, and our guys never gave up.” Another thing that Mooney stated was, "That is a good squad and we will have some great battles."


Chili Dogs' Bats Deliver Big Bite (16u)
The Home Plate Chili Dogs defeated Aquasox Baseball in the championship game on Monday at East Cobb in a highly anticipated matchup. They scored right away, and they didn't turn back.

Home Plate scored seven runs in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead over the Aquasox. With a leadoff single, Cameron Coleman got things going. A hit by pitch was followed by a bunt single courtesy of Matt Evans. Benjamin Edge induced a walk to score the opening run of the ballgame. To extend the advantage to 3-0, Cole Gilmore singled up the middle, scoring two runs. P Delvin Elsenpeter executed an impressive squeeze on the following play extending the lead to four. With a 3-run home run to left field, Aiden Wilson highlighted the inning and stretched the lead to 7-0.

In five innings of work, Devin Elsenpeter allowed three runs, two of which were earned, on four hits.

The Chili Dogs led 8-0 after Cole Gilmore's RBI single in the bottom of the second inning.

After a single by Walker DuBose and a Chili Dog’s error, the Aquasox sought to regain the lead. After a few wild pitches, Luke Stone delivered with a 2-RBI single, trimming the deficit 8-2.

Alex White's leadoff single in the bottom of the fourth inning gave the Home Plate Chili Dogs an increase in momentum. Matt Evans and Benjamin Edge hit back-to-back singles after an out, and the Chili Dogs then added a run on a sacrifice fly by Cole Gilmore.

With one out and a hit by pitch in the top of the fifth, the Aquasox looked to respond and they were able to score thanks to a triple by Ryan Shumate.

With a leadoff single from Kristopher Colton, the Chili Dogs' offense remained lively. Aiden Wilson, who followed a wild pitch with an RBI double to right center field, put an end to the affair. After the game, head coach Fred West commented, "Our squad fought hard and has been fighting all tournament. We played relentlessly and passionately. I am really proud of them as they strive to win every inning.”


6-4-3 Make it Back-to-Back (17u)
In back-to-back weekends the 6-4-3 Dp Cougars 17u clinched their second championship title of the summer. After defeating the 6-4-3 Dp Cougars 18u, 7-3 in last weekend's SE Memorial Day Classic to win the championship, they went on this weekend to defeat the 5 Star Atlanta 17u, 5-1 to clinch the SE Elite Championship 17u title.  


Liam Bestermann started on the mound for the Cougars holding 5 Star to their only run of the game. Allowing only one hit, Bestermann topped out his fastball at 88 mph Monday evening. Eli Hardage came in for relief and was able to allow no hits and no runs.  
 
The 6-4-3 bats were explosive with their five runs and nine hits. Eight of the Cougars batters recorded at least one hit, and Cooper Davis went 2-for-3 at the plate with a line drive to center field, followed up by a single down the middle. For 5 Star, Jayden Clark scored the team's only run of the night off a wild pitch to the backstop.   


Runs Aplenty for TG DBacks (18u)
The Tg D-Backs Scout 18u team was able to walk away with a 12-1 run-rule victory over the East Cobb Yankees Monday afternoon. Andrew Elkhill got the start for the D-Backs, pitching all five innings and limiting the Yankees to only three hits and one run.   
 

Offensively the D-Backs were on fire, scoring twelve runs on the afternoon and racking up seven hits. Sherman Johnson II went 2-for-2 at the plate, advancing on both a grounder to third and a line drive triple to right field. Walker Barron and Daniel Smith also had impressive offensive outings, combining for five RBIs.

Creighton Tuzzio (2024, Clarinda, Iowa) took the ball in the semi-final game and was able to get on the bump and carve for his team. Tuzzio is a taller 6-foot-6, 210-pound frame with plenty to like in the operation. The right-handed pitcher has a slower and more controlled operation as he works through the delivery. He lifts the leg up around the belt and then works through a three-quarters release with good whip through it. The fastball worked up to 86 mph on the fastball and held in the low- to mid-80s. He creates some angle on it with the taller & projectable frame. It runs arm-side and can be a problem for right-handed hitters. He also showed a low-70s curveball with a bigger 11/5 tilt to it and good depth to miss some bats. The Iowa Western commit threw 5.0 innings, allowing just 1 run, with 4 walks and 6 strikeouts to his credit.   There’s no surprise here, but...

Flores has a great feel for the zone and pounded strikes at a 66% rate. Flores generated swing and miss after swing and miss and it was clear he was in control out there on the mound. James Sherry (’26, Aiken, S.C.)- the 6-foot-1, 155-pound right-handed pitcher tossed a complete game for Xtreme Xposure Baseball-Bennett in an 8-1 win over 2 Way Athletics 16U. A primary outfielder, Sherry finished with 15 strikeouts and just one walk while controlling the zone at a 65% strike rate. Appearing in only his second PG tournament, Sherry turned in another great pitching performance after being selected to the All-Tournament Team at the 2023 16U PG Southeast Labor Day Classic. Patrick Kovacs (2026 Knoxville TN) was dominant in his outing in game two of pool play for Exposure National. The southpaw tossed three scoreless innings allowing two hits while striking out eight. He showed plus command of the fastball dotting it to both sides of the plate while working off the corners at times. Patrick sat 75-78 topping at 79 multiple times throughout. He mixed in a tight breaking ball with two plane movement that he had no problem mixing in any count keeping the opposing hitters off balanced in the box. Coming from a mid 3/4s slot there was some deception within the operation making it tough to pick the fastball up out of the hand. The frame has plenty of athleticism within with plenty of more room for additional strength as he continues to mature. Kovacs should be a fun follow as he continues to progress through high school. Jack Harley (2024, Mendham, NJ) put together a dominant performance at the plate in the WWBA NEQ, leading his team to a coveted Jupiter bid while also earning MVP-honors. The 6-foot-1 left-handed hitter showcased his advanced bat-to-ball skills on several occasions. He batted .643 with two doubles, a home run and six stolen bases. Harley utilizes a repeatable, synced-up stroke with clean separation into launch. He has a great feel for the barrel and creates good strength at impact to all parts of the diamond. The future Hokie recorded a hit in all six of his games and proved to be a reliable bat at the top-of-the-order for Clubhouse 2024 EvoShield. Nathan Caldwell (2026, Columbia, S.C.) looked the part in the batter’s box as the Team Elite three-hole hitter had one of the hardest hit balls of the day. There’s really impressive bat speed and the ability to create violence and rotational acceleration through contact. He missiled a single during the game and there looks like there’s going to be pretty significant impact potential long term. He’s a strong kid with good indicators and offensive tools to like. Drew Borkowski (2026, Huntley, Ill.) showed plenty to like in the arm as he got the start in game one on the day for GRB. At 6-foot-1, 170-pounds he’s got a lanky frame with long limbs and plenty of room for physical projection.
