Class of 2024 grad and Tennessee commit Levi Clark was named the Southeast Memorial Day Classic 18u MVP this past Sunday.

Clark had an outstanding performance in last weekend's tournament at the plate batting .667 through nine at-bats. Some highlights from the weekend include three home runs and seven RBIs.

“As you look back, I think in the first two games, Levi had like four walks and one double,” Cougars head coach Danny Praglo said after the championship win Sunday. “The beauty of that is even though he's being looked at by so many MLB guys, and he's already committed to Tennessee, his discipline at the plate is what set the tone for the rest of our hitters.”

Clark and the 17u Cougars, played up this past weekend, and went undefeated through both pool and bracket play. Coach Praglo acknowledged that Clark really got the team's offensive momentum going courtesy of his patience at the plate and ability to set the tone.

“Not chasing bad pitches, ready to hit, good enough to hold,” Praglo said. “Levi does that so well right now and it kind of calms all the hitters around us.”

Defensively for the Cougars, you can find Clark behind the plate catching for the team. Although he currently catches, Clark has had plenty of experience playing some infield at third base and pitching for the 6-4-3 organization. In 2022 Clark pitched 8.2 innings striking out seven batters.

The Walton Raider’s rising senior accepted his offer to play at The University of Tennessee in August of 2021 and will join the decorated SEC team in the Spring 2025.

“I have been playing up since I was about four. I have an older brother and there has always been a competitive atmosphere there,” Clark said. “So I always knew (college baseball) is what I wanted to do.”

The Tennessee Volunteers were crowned the SEC tournament champions in 2022 and are now vying for the NCAA Division 1 tournament title.

“The coaches and the environment,” Clark said, is what helped him make his decision to commit to Tennessee. “I mean there's nothing else like it out there, it's great.”

After winning yesterday 2-0 in their first pool game against the Grinders Baseball 17u team, Clark and the Cougars are now set to face the Southeast Sox 17u in their second pool game of the PG Southeast Elite Championship this morning.

“Hopefully we can go out there and do the same thing as last week and go undefeated,” Clark said. “Just (need to) play the hardest we can and play some team baseball.”
