Fort Myers, Fla. will play host to 114 teams from all across the country and Puerto Rico from Sept. 23-27 for the return of the WWBA Sophomore World Championship, one of the premier events on the Perfect Game schedule.

Each corner of the country, from out west in California to the northeast in New York and Connecticut, to the heartland with teams from Nebraska and Illinois, and the hotbeds of Texas, Florida, and Georgia, will all represented.

The No. 1 player in the 2024 class, outfielder Derek Curiel, is on the USA Prime National roster for the event. USA Prime figures to be one of the teams to beat this week, with a number of top-100 prospects set to join Curiel in their dugout. Chris Newstrom, the No. 11 overall prospect in the class, is one of them. Ty Southisene (No. 20 overall) will too, as well as Ben Reiland (No. 59), Xavier Rivera (No. 74), Tegan Kuhns (No. 80), and Camden Clewett (No. 82).

Canes National, another perennial power, will also be bringing the heat this week. Five top-50 2024 prospects will be on the Canes roster – Andre’ Modugno (No. 7), Chase Mobley (No. 13), Owen Paino (No. 16), PJ Morlando (No. 26), and Carson Messina (No. 44).

In total, 32 of the top-100 players in the 2024 class are rostered. The depth of the competition also takes a backseat to no other tournament on the schedule, with hundreds of the top-500 players in the class set to play in Fort Myers. And in addition to the 2024 class, 12 of the top-100 players from the 2025 class are also rostered for the event, including No. 5 overall prospect Jacob Kendall and No. 16 Luke Pappano, who will both play for 5 Star National 15u Black.

The 114 teams in attendance will be split up between 27 pools of four and one pool of six teams, with each team getting three pool play games before brackets get settled. The 29 pool winners will all move on (the top-2 in the pool of 6) all get births into that bracket, as well as three wild card teams.
