Five Champs Crowned at East Labor Day

18u East Labor Day Classic

Four runs in the bottom of the first inning were all Fury 2022 needed in the championship game of the East Labor Day Classic, holding off Midland Swarm Southeast Blue by a score of 4-2.
 
A leadoff single from Michael McAloose was followed by a subsequent Matthew Morales single, four walks followed those two base knocks, and Preston Heben singled through the left side to drive in the fourth run of the inning.
 
Morales was named the MVP of the event, as he hit .615 over 13 at-bats, adding five walks, six runs, two driven in, and a stolen base.
 
Zachary Root, also playing for Fury 2022, was the MV-Pitcher. The uncommitted 2022, currently ranked as the No. 23 left-handed pitcher in the class, tossed six scoreless innings across two appearances, striking out 14 in that time and allowing just one hit.
 


17u East Labor Day Classic

Ostingers Baseball Academy 2023 and Hit Factory Pros 2023 were all knotted up at 2-2 through three innings of the championship game in the Underclass portion of the East Labor Day Classic and decided to leave it there, as the two squads agreed to be crowned as co-champions because of ongoing rain and lightning delays in the area.
 
Hit Factory Pros was held scoreless through the first two frames, but scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game and earn the co-championship. LaPlace Sallis IV and Anthony Petrillo reached on a hit-by-pitch and walk, respectively, to start the inning, and later came around to score and tie the game on an error to the right side off the bat of Maddox King, who battled during the seven-pitch at-bat.
 
Ostingers broke through first in the top of the first inning. A single from Jayden Vazquez started it off, and he later came around to score on an RBI single from Bryan Rivera.
 
Aidan Walsh singled in the top of the third for Ostingers, and was driven in by Arjun Nimmala, who doubled on a line to right field.

Co-MVPs were crowned in the 17u division. Hit Factory's Grant Jordan hit .667 in 12 at-bats, driving in six runs. Ostingers' Nimmala was also named MVP, as he hit .571, including a home run, on his way to scoring seven runs and driving in five.

Hit Factory's Daniel Lazaro was named MV-Pitcher. Over two appearances, including a seven-inning start, Lazaro didn't allow a single earned run, struck out 10, and only allowed two hits.
 


16u East Labor Day Classic

Pitching ruled the day in the 16u championship game of the East Labor Day Classic, as Florida Aces 2024 Black’s Stephen Joyce tossed all seven innings of the championship against Ostingers Baseball Academy 2024, giving up just five hits and one unearned run to lead his team to a 2-1 victory.
 
Ian Jones worked a seven-pitch walk in the third inning to get himself on base for the Aces, stole second base to force the action, and later came around to score on an error to give his team the lead.
 
Consecutive walks to start the bottom of the sixth from Michael Conger and Danny Machado started another scoring opportunity for the Aces, and a single from Gregory Caban brought Conger around to score to push the lead to 2-0 heading into the last frame.
 
Ostingers Baseball Academy did scratch a run across in the top of the seventh, thanks in part to an error in the inning and a few walks. With two outs, the bases loaded, and the score standing at 2-1 in favor of the Aces, Joyce induced a groundout right back to him to secure the win.
 
Machado was named the MVP of the tournament for the Florida Aces. The top-100 prospect in the 2025 class hit .429 for the event, while adding five walks to his statline, as well as three runs, seven RBI, and six stolen bases.
 
Joyce, for his efforts in the title game, was named the MV-Pitcher of the event.



15u East Labor Day Classic

Tyler Greenberg tossed seven scoreless innings for the Florida Warriors in the title game of the 15u East Labor Day Classic, as his squad laid four runs on Loyola Baseball, winning by that 4-0 margin.
 
Greenberg only allowed three hits and one walk over the course of his outing, striking out eight in the process and needing just 78 pitches to get through his start.
 
The scoring got started in the fourth inning for the Warriors, as Alejandro Rosales and Darwin Vargas hit back-to-back singles before Robert Kramer drove in Rosales on a ground ball to short.
 
Two more runs scored in the next inning, thanks to RBI singles from Rowen Plasencia and Greenberg. Plasencia singled again in the sixth inning, and came around to score on a Rosales ground ball to third base, which made the score 4-0 in favor of the Warriors.

Plasencia was the MVP of the tournament, as he hit .300, scored three times, and drove in a pair. Greenberg was given MV-Pitcher honors for his work during the championship game.
 


14u East Labor Day Classic

The 14u championship game at the East Labor Day Classic brought arguably the best game of the tournament, with five lead changes leading to a one-run victory.
 
In the end, it was a two-run sixth inning for SWFL Baseball 2026 that led them to a 5-4 victory over Gulf Coast Monarchs 14u.
 
Gulf Coast Monarchs got out to the first lead of the game, pushing a run across in the bottom of the second inning thanks to a few walks, a single from Beau Collier, and a wild pitch eventually plating Aiden Puente.
 
Two runs in the top of the third for SWFL came from an RBI single from Carter Chalder and RBI double from Nicholas Raber, which scored Chalder.
 
Gulf Coast came right back in the bottom of the frame, however, plating two runs of their own to retake the lead, 3-2. A walk and a single from Joseph Lawson and Thomas Giltner, respectively, started the inning, and RBI single from Andrew Gonzalez tied the game at 3-3, and a passed ball brought in Giltner to grab the lead back.
 
A two-out rally in the top of the fifth inning produced another tie in the title game, as Chalder walked to extend the inning, moved up to second base thanks to a passed ball, and scored on an Alan Overmyer RBI single to right field.
 
Lawson and Gonzalez subsequently singled in the bottom of the fifth inning for Gulf Coast, and Lawson broke yet another tie when he scored on a Puente sacrifice fly. Heading into the sixth inning, it was 4-3 in favor of the Monarchs.
 
The sixth inning proved to be crucial for SWFL, as two runs were plated to take the lead for good. Bryce Goldstein walked to begin the inning, was bunted into scoring position, and came around to score on an Aaron Hurley RBI single. Hurley himself then came around to score the game-winning run on a single from Evan Goeller.

Raber was given MVP honors for the tournament. Across 18 at-bats, he hit .556 with five doubles and drove in nine runs. Gulf Coast's OB Osceola III was named MV-Pitcher for his four-inning, six-strikeout scoreless performance against Team X 14u.

Creighton Tuzzio (2024, Clarinda, Iowa) took the ball in the semi-final game and was able to get on the bump and carve for his team. Tuzzio is a taller 6-foot-6, 210-pound frame with plenty to like in the operation. The right-handed pitcher has a slower and more controlled operation as he works through the delivery. He lifts the leg up around the belt and then works through a three-quarters release with good whip through it. The fastball worked up to 86 mph on the fastball and held in the low- to mid-80s. He creates some angle on it with the taller & projectable frame. It runs arm-side and can be a problem for right-handed hitters. He also showed a low-70s curveball with a bigger 11/5 tilt to it and good depth to miss some bats. James Sherry (’26, Aiken, S.C.)- the 6-foot-1, 155-pound right-handed pitcher tossed a complete game for Xtreme Xposure Baseball-Bennett in an 8-1 win over 2 Way Athletics 16U. A primary outfielder, Sherry finished with 15 strikeouts and just one walk while controlling the zone at a 65% strike rate. Appearing in only his second PG tournament, Sherry turned in another great pitching performance after being selected to the All-Tournament Team at the 2023 16U PG Southeast Labor Day Classic. Patrick Kovacs (2026 Knoxville TN) was dominant in his outing in game two of pool play for Exposure National. The southpaw tossed three scoreless innings allowing two hits while striking out eight. He showed plus command of the fastball dotting it to both sides of the plate while working off the corners at times. Patrick sat 75-78 topping at 79 multiple times throughout. He mixed in a tight breaking ball with two plane movement that he had no problem mixing in any count keeping the opposing hitters off balanced in the box. Coming from a mid 3/4s slot there was some deception within the operation making it tough to pick the fastball up out of the hand. The frame has plenty of athleticism within with plenty of more room for additional strength as he continues to mature. Kovacs should be a fun follow as he continues to progress through high school. Jack Harley (2024, Mendham, NJ) put together a dominant performance at the plate in the WWBA NEQ, leading his team to a coveted Jupiter bid while also earning MVP-honors. The 6-foot-1 left-handed hitter showcased his advanced bat-to-ball skills on several occasions. He batted .643 with two doubles, a home run and six stolen bases. Harley utilizes a repeatable, synced-up stroke with clean separation into launch. He has a great feel for the barrel and creates good strength at impact to all parts of the diamond. The future Hokie recorded a hit in all six of his games and proved to be a reliable bat at the top-of-the-order for Clubhouse 2024 EvoShield. Nathan Caldwell (2026, Columbia, S.C.) looked the part in the batter’s box as the Team Elite three-hole hitter had one of the hardest hit balls of the day. There’s really impressive bat speed and the ability to create violence and rotational acceleration through contact. He missiled a single during the game and there looks like there’s going to be pretty significant impact potential long term. He’s a strong kid with good indicators and offensive tools to like. Drew Borkowski (2026, Huntley, Ill.) showed plenty to like in the arm as he got the start in game one on the day for GRB. At 6-foot-1, 170-pounds he’s got a lanky frame with long limbs and plenty of room for physical projection.
