Southeast World Series Scout Notes

Preston Crowl (2023, Wirtz, Va.) showcased legit two-way abilities over the weekend as he impressed in a big way. In the box, the right-handed stick deploys a simple approach as he utilizes his advanced hand-eye coordination to do the work. Stays simple in his pre-pitch actions as he strides out and lands in a balanced hitting position. Throws the hands threw the zone and stays linear. Not just a contact-oriented type bat as he also had three extra-base knocks on the week. His most impressive one being a triple into the left-center gap late into the playoffs. Proved to have some speed as well as he glided around the paths. Later hopped onto the mound and was up to 86 mph. Also mixed in a fading changeup and a sharp breaking ball. Didn’t produce from a stat line standpoint but you could see the upside showing. The Rubber Arm Rockies team member had a strong showing in front of a good bit of scouts this weekend and he should start to hear his phone ring more often. Look for him to come off the uncommitted list sooner rather than later.
 




Cade Cosper (2023, Carrollton, Ga.) was on the hill for his Canes Southeast Scout squad in the quarterfinals and came up with a win, as is often the case. The right-hander is starting to fill the frame out a bit more and it has shown in his velocity. Hasn’t necessarily made a huge jump numbers wise but has proved he can hold velocity for longer, a great sign from a young prep arm. The delivery is free and easy as he sits on the backside a bit before drifting down the hill. We saw the heater up to 88 mph and he pounded the zone in the mid-80’s for his entire outing. Mixed in a sharp breaking ball with 11-5 movements that he proved he could get swing and miss with. Kept hitters off-balance as he proved he could pitch backwards and was always in total control from a command standpoint. Cosper is still young in the face and it’s easy to assume he still has a big jump left in him before he leaves high school. Don’t be shocked to see him light up the radars with 90s by next spring. In 5 1/3 innings pitched, he struck out six and only walked a pair.
