David Shields (2025, Pittsburg, Pa.) turned in what was likely the most impressive outing of the event in the semifinal round as he tossed a five-inning no-hitter where he walked none and struck out 10. The projectable lefthander does it about as easy as it gets at this age as he works from an extended slot with minimal effort while already holding around 82-84 mph with the fastball. While the velocity isn’t all that big, he’s able to miss a ton of bats with the fastball and it stems from his ability to move it around the zone and sequence his pitches well. He already has strong feel for the breaking ball as he sweeps it into the zone from that same extended slot and he has flashed some solid changeups giving him three solid pitches for strikes to go with a delivery that is about as smooth as you’ll see at this age and loads of projection components.
