15u WWBA East Scout Notes: Day 1 & 2

Tyler Smith (2022, Jackson, TN) finished off a five inning perfect game in a 8-0 victory for Easley Baseball Club showing a three pitch mix and keeping hitters off balance all day long. Smith was pretty masterful from start to finish striking out six hitters in his five innings. Smith filled up the zone at a 70% rate pitching primarily off his fastball that sat 83-87 mph, up to 88 mph once. He flashed a curveball and a changeup, but the fastball was the pitch he threw nearly the entire game without giving up a hit or walk. The pitch has life to it down in the zone and was a key in missing barrels throughout. Smith’s delivery is pretty easy and the ball comes from a lower three-quarters slot to create that life on the fastball. He does a great job repeating his delivery leading with the hip and staying pretty short with his stride down the hill. Smith’s performance was the top pitching outing of the event and certainly highlighted the uncommitted righthander’s trip to Hoover.
