Mid-Atlantic WS Belongs to Balance Bat Academy

After multiple months of not being able to play the game they love, the last game of the 17U Mid-Atlantic Word Series featured a pitcher’s duel that saw only three runs combined between both teams. Balance Bat Academy Red would claim the championship in a 2-1 final over 3up 3down Baseball Academy. Tyler Harris two-out, two-run single in the fourth inning would be enough for Balance Bat Academy Red to take home the championship.

Nick Wiesendanger threw a complete game, only needing 82 total pitches to do so. Trusting the fielders behind him, Wiesendanger didn’t record a strike out, pitching to contact and allowing his fielders to make plays. Only allowing one run, off five hits during his seven innings of work, Wiesendanger worked between 75-79 mph with his fastball complimenting it with his curveball between 64-66 mph.



Matthew Gehris also threw a gem during the championship game. Going 6 2/3 innings, unable to finish after eclipsing the max pitch count for a game. Gehris struck out 11 batters, getting a lot of swing-and-misses. Gehris’ fastball ranged from 74-84, averaging 81 during the majority of his outing, his curveball ranged from 65-72 mph. Gehris would surrender two runs in the fourth, which would go on to put him on the losing end of an outstanding performance.

Connor Reilly and Connor Booth would come in to score on Harris’s RBI single. Booth along with Cole Blence, Matthew Dowger, Zach Gardner and James Jones all registered a hit, totaling the five recorded for Balance Bat Academy Red.

3up 3down Baseball Academy’s lone run would come in the bottom of the fourth when Daniel Orrego came into score on Jefrey Hernandez’s sac-fly. Ranciel Ventura was the only player from either team to have a multi-hit game. Louis Lombardi, Zackary Bollinger, and Darius Troche recorded the other three hits for 3up 3down.
