16u PG World Series Qualifier:
Day 1 Notes | Day 2 Notes | Day 3 Notes

Jack Owens (2022, Apollo Beach, Fla.) is a very interesting two-way player. With a 5-foot-11, 155-pound frame, he looks like he can do anything he wants on a baseball field. He pitched in the Sunday morning game for Ostingers Baseball Academy 2022.  He came out sitting 83-87 mph early and complimented it with a big breaking curveball that will be a very good offering as he learns to throw it harder. He is relaxed on the mound, but his competitive nature stood out in pressure spots.  Offensively, Owens has hit .412 with a double helping lead OBA to the championship game Monday morning.

Christian Hamilton (2021, Tampa, Fla.) has a frame with big projection, very slender and long-limbed, he can add easy weight that will immediately help his already-solid repertoire play up.  He had a slow and methodical delivery to balance and then accelerated through a quick quad load and the arm was fast through release. His light 150-pound frame still produced a lively 84 mph peak that got a lot of soft contact early on. He showed a changeup that he pronated well to get long fade.  His 10-4 slider got loose at times, but it shows promise when he extends and gets to his glove side.  Hamilton is a very nice arm to follow as he adds strength to his athletic frame.

Justin Montanez (2021, Springhill, Fla.) showed a lot of energy in his playoff game Sunday.  He has quick hands at the plate with good barrel speed at contact.  He swings with ease from a stretch but balanced process.  He has an easy stride as a runner and has the ability to run down balls in the gaps from his center field position.  As he fills out his boxed frame you can see him being a lively center field prospect with power potential.  He had a great event, hitting .375 with a double and triple.

Cooper Symmons (2021, Winter Springs, Fla.) Had a great day for Power Baseball 2021 Gold. He threw a very efficient 87 pitch complete game shutout.  The pure stuff is not overwhelming at this point, but he has upside with an athletic build and clean arm slot.  He has feel for three pitches and did a great job keep hitters off balance.  He showed no fear throwing any of his pitches in any count.  In his seven innings he scattered three hits, while walking only one and striking out six.

Wyatt Strickland (2021, Valrico, Fla.) has a strong build and hits balls hard. Strickland, who is uncommitted, went 2-for-3 with a double that he smacked down the third base line. He has quick hands at the plate and has a good bat path with his swing. Strickland has good pop to his pull-side and looks to elevate the ball into the gap.

Ostingers Baseball Academy 2022’s center fielder is Drake Harman (2022, Lithia, Fla.) Herman went 6-for-7 on the day. He is a line drive hitter that lives up the middle of the field and goes the other way very nicely. He stands 5-foot-11 in the lefthanded batter’s box with his hands calm and uses his short compact swing to find the barrel constantly. Harman also uses his speed very well in the outfield playing centerfield with confidence.

Jonathan Vastine (2021, Bartow, Fla.), a righthanded starting pitcher for Hit Factory Pro, was lights out Sunday, throwing all seven innings with seven strikeouts. Vastine has a slow windup but explodes off of his backside right down the mound. He had his fastball sitting at 84-86 mph and hit 88. His curveball was lethal all day at 76 mph and it had hitters buckling. He has a very athletic build standing at 5-foot-11, 150 pounds. Vastine controlled the pace of the game very well and was able to command in the inner half of the plate, which made him dominant. He also had a good day at the plate going 2-for-3 in the leadoff spot.
