Astros strike for 17 runs to claim 13U Crown

EMERSON, Ga. – The East Cobb Astros 13U defeated Knights Baseball 13U Platinum to capture the 2018 PG Super25 13u Georgia Super Qualifier title. The Astros needed just 8 hits to muster 17 runs across the plate to win the game in blowout fashion.

In each of the game’s four innings, the Astros put up crooked numbers including a seven spot in the top of the fourth. Preston Murphy, Luke Dotson, and Zachary Zorbo all led the way for the Astros with 3 RBI. Zorbo’s production came early in the game in the top of the first inning where he stood at the plate with a 1-1 count. Zorbo connected on a fastball and drove it to center field for a 3-RBI triple to put the Astros out in front early. The Knights would get one run back in the bottom of the first but were halted for the rest of the game thanks to excellent starting pitching from Jackson McKenzie.

Dylan Cupp would lead off the second inning with a triple to center field and would score on the next pitch as Chandler Pollard would single him home. Pollard would second and third before scoring on a sacrifice fly from Preston Murphy. The game was far out of reach after two innings before the Astros really poured it on for 11 more runs in the next two innings.

The MVP of the event was Jackson McKenzie of the East Cobb Astros 13u. McKenzie had a stellar weekend going 8-15 (.533) with 9 RBI including a home run. Jack Dollar was crowned the MV-Pitcher with two appearances during the 2018 PG Super25 13u Georgia Super Qualifier. Dollar pitched 4 2/3 innings of one hit baseball striking out 4 and walking none.

Bombers outlast Titans in back-and-forth affair

EMERSON, Ga. – In a wild game that featured a ton of jockeying between both teams, Georgia Bombers (Hill) defeated Titans Baseball 14s Blue with a walk-off run to win the game by a score of 9-8. Both offenses came out of the gate swinging which made for a very entertaining game and an exciting finish.

The Titans struck first with a three-run top of the first inning. Trent Reddick and Brody Hollingsworth notched back-to-back RBI doubles to bring two runs in and Griffin Cherry put the “cherry” on top with an RBI single to make the lead 3-0 heading into the bottom of the third.

The Bombers would strike back in the bottom of the second inning with two runs, thanks in part to a Cade Thompson triple that saw him score later in the next at-bat, before the Titans struck again both in the third and the fifth. Reddick, Hollingsworth, and Cherry were at the center of the action again and the score was 8-2 heading into the bottom of the fifth.

The rally started in the bottom of the fifth for the Bombers as they would put seven runs over the final four frames to seal the victory. The sixth inning saw them put up four runs, including an RBI double from Riley Stanford, and the Bombers would seal the victory in the eighth with a walk-off, run-scoring error.

De’yon Cannon was a key stabilizing force as he tossed 4 1/3 strong innings while only allowing one earned run. Canyon battled through some control issues with four walks but was up to 82 mph and effectively shutout the Titans for the rest of the affair.

Trent Reddick was named MVP of the event with a .500 batting average, six extra base hits, and thirteen RBI while also putting forth a strong effort in the championship game. Cole Munhall tossed a complete game shutout earlier in the tournament to earn MV-Pitcher honors. Munhall struck out ten batters and only allowed five hits over seven shutout frames.
